The ultimate supercar is about to go under the auctioneer’s hammer - with bidders expected to pay up to $5 million for a chance to drive the vehicle.
The 1997 McLaren F1 GTR is being sold off in California. The 240mph F1 model is believed to be the fastest production car to have been produced and took part in races at top tracks including Nurburgring, Donington and Laguna Seca.
It is being sold at the 2012 Bonhams Auction of Exceptional Motorcars, taking place in Carmel in August this year. Bonhams are describing the car as 'the 20th Century’s ultimate motoring icon'
Mark Osborne, head of motoring at Bonhams added: 'We are delighted to have been appointed by an international collector to represent this breathtaking piece of competition machinery. Racing legends like the McLaren F1 GTR rarely if ever appear at auction.'
